This year Generation 1000 has focused its outreach on the Carl Perkins Center, located in downtown Selmer. The center serves McNairy County and does an excellent job in child advocacy. We are giving the public an opportunity to tap into their desire of wanting McNairy County to be a better environment for its citizens, by having the center set up a tent at the Slemer City Park to recieve donations of non-perishable foods and diapers, specifically sizes 3-5. County Director, Like DeLaVergne, will be on hand to speak to the public that afternoon to increase awareness of the center's accomplishments.

It is our hope that the community would rally around this institution which does so much to provide a better life for its citizens.

Selmer Generation 1000 will be Saturday, July 30th, 2011 at the Selmer City Park.

Registration will begin at 10:00am and activities will go throughout the day until 6:00pm. Bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, dining canopies, and friends for a family friendly day of free food, beverages, and live entertainment. Entertainment includes live bands, dances, dramas, and skits by regional groups.

Generation 1000 is one day that is set aside by regional individuals, businesses, and churches to bless a community. Hand in hand they purpose to give back into the people of the community. The motto of Generation 1000 for the past twelve years has been, "BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER". This will be the third event in McNairy county with over 500 people attending the first event in Selmer.
